another lovely project i recently finished is windschief, a pattern by stephen west:
this hat took me only a few hours to knit, over a couple of days. the yarn is malabrigo worsted.
my b-friend, D, is not the biggest fan of knitted things. he likes socks, and is a bit neutral about sweaters, but he had a bad experience with a hat i made him many years ago (it was too big and stretched out quite quickly). he has been, shall we say, quite hesitant on the knitted hat front. SO, for this project, i managed to keep my mouth shut the entire time i was knitting it, in an effort not to jinx the attitude of the potential recipient. when i finished, i just tossed it over to him (sitting next to me on the couch) and said something sufficiently cool and non-chalant, like "do you want this?" and then resumed watching whatever episode of star trek we happened to be watching.
he quite likes it and has been wearing it every day!
