i was the lucky girl chosen to test knit this hat. it will soon be available as a pattern in the Twisted pattern line!
the yarn is brown sheep lanaloft bulky. the design for this hat is quit unique - it sits on your head somewhere in between a stocking cap and a beret. this is a perfect project for a beginning cable-knitter. cables look so difficult, but are really not that difficult. Here are some cabling basics:
- if you hold your cable needle (and the stitches on it) in front, your cable will lean to the left.
- if you hold your cable needle (and the stitches on it) to the back, your cable will lean to the right.
- C2F and C2L both mean the same thing, that is: "cable 2 front" or "cable 2 left" both require you to hold your cable needle in the front to achieve a left-leaning cable.
- same thing for C2R and C2B
- if your abbreviation says "C2B" that actually means that your whole cable takes up only 2 stitches, so you would slip 1 stitch onto your cable needle, hold the cable needle in back of your work, then knit the next stitch, and then knit the stitch off the cable needle.
- C4B would mean: slip 2 stitches onto your cable needle, hold the cable needle in back of your work, knit the next 2 stitches, then knit the 2 stitches off your cable needle.
I love this yarn and am using it for my Aran Heirloom blanket.
